Things that grow

In September we decided to plant some seeds. We knew it was still the rainy season but we wanted the seeds to be plants when the warm weather got here.  The seeds sprouted really fast.
We usually had a garden every year. Although sometimes the chickens would dig it up and eat it.
I like working in the garden. I also like picking the vegetables when they are ready. I don't really like to eat  a lot of vegetables but I think its neat to watch them grow.
The other day we were working in the garden. I was watering the garden and pulling out weeds. We had been working on a new garden box and there were was already grass growing in it. I remembered that our chickens used to eat our gardens so I thought it might be a good plan to put chickens in our empty garden box to do the weeding for us. I had to put the dog in the house before we let the chickens out, because she really likes to watch the chickens. I think maybe she would eat them.
The vegetables are getting really big now that the sun is out more often. The days have been really nice for a while now. I'm really glad the rainy season is over.

We went up to the pasture today to check on the tadpoles and the blackberries. The tadpoles are still tadpoles! I wanted to climb the tree for a birds eye view. But I didnt have to. I could they all still had tails not legs. I guess maybe those that grew legs could have already hopped away.  But maybe they're just hiding.
The blackberries are just now starting to get ripe. The bulls were very curious why we were up in the fields by the pasture.  They were very friendly.
We made a dessert out of the berries we picked today. I think in about three weeks they will be perfect.
I found another strange  leaf up near the pasture today. Can you see what it really is?

From now on, you'll get more and more sun. I remember feeling relieved about that by the end of the rainy season, but I was always happy to see the rain at the end of the dry season, too. It's good to have both. Your garden looks amazing. You seem like such a pro... a way better gardener than I ever was. Yes, I think it's a good idea to keep Bobbie in the house while the chickens work on the island. Better safe than sorry. Keep up with your blog... I love reading everything you're up to and seeing the farm transform.

Was that "strange leaf" really a salamander? That's what it reminded me of...we have lots of salamanders here at our house, too. I have a question for you, Q.....why do you grow tadpoles??

The gardens looked very good...it's so fun to watch things grow. Good idea to use the chickens to weed. I love your blog... life down in Costa Rica is so different than in Warrenton, but also very similar. I look forward to seeing you in a week!!

We just found the tadpoles one day when we were walking. We have been waiting for them to grow but they are not getting bigger so far. I miss you. see you soon.

Those tadpoles are getting BIG! I couldn't see what was in the leaf picture, just my bad eyes. Keep up the great work on your blog, I check it everyday. See you soon.
Love always

Great coverage Q. It's a better written blog than most I've seen. In that last picture, right in the middle, it looks like part of a bushmaster sticking out from under the leaves. I don't think they live on the west side of the mountains, but always use caution messing around in the dead leaves.

The gardens really look great Q. I bet you will learn to like the vegetables more and more. You look like a real farmer, in the photo of you holding the chickens. Look forward to seeing you next week. Bye!
