The bulls and the barker

Last time Kevin asked me how the bulls were doing. So I thought I would tell you about the bulls.

There are five bulls at Hush Valley. I think their names are Cruise ( named after Tom Cruise), Rocky ( Named after Sylvester Stallone) Redford ( Named after a movie star) , Rainman ( after a movie) and Willis ( Named for Bruce Willis) and the black one is named Junio. He is Martins bull.
Im not sure which one has which name. Or even If I'm right about their names. There use to be six bulls. But now there is only five, so Im not sure.

My mom and dad were really excited about having organic beef when we moved here. But then we discovered the bulls are really nice. They keep all the grass trimmed and Hush Valley looking really nice. They are organic lawn mowers. They don't bother us at all. They even let us pet them. My mom and dad don't think they could eat them. Well, maybe they could eat them, but they cant kill them. That happened with me and trout. I like fishing for them, but I dont want to kill them.
Sometimes when Im walking to school the red one will be by the fence watching me. One time i went up and put my hand out to him and he licked it with his big tongue. It felt really scratchy! I think they have a scratchy tongues to help them eat the plants and grasses. Their tongues are also really long. They can reach for grass on the other side of the fence.
The bulls didnt even have a problem with the hurricane. they are smart enough to find shelter and stay safe. But I think they have a problem with Bobbie McGee. She likes to bite their ankles, and they hate that.  Mostly, she does it to the smaller black one, Junio.
I think the bulls are doing really good Kevin!

That's really neat, Q! I don't think I could eat one of the bulls either...especially if they are that friendly. Thanks for posting!

Love Grandma S

Another good story Q Man. Your Mom knows all about eating the animals that she grew up with. Living on a farm makes it hard, since all the animals become your pets. Leslie's family used to get piglets, and raise them for meat.

What a nice article on your bulls! I also understand about killing and eating, but this is the life on the farm.
Love always

Great blog post, Q!! So nice to see pics of the bulls and nice to know they're all okay after the hurricane. They really are so friendly. They used to go up to Kevin and ask for a cuddle. Kevin really babied those bulls. He raised them from the time they were babies, so he became really attached to them. Bobbie can be a real pest, but don't worry, she's no match for them. They seem to tolerate her antics. Keep writing, I love reading about all your adventures! Say hi to your mum and dad for me! Miss ya.

Thank you for the update on the bulls, much appreciated.

Ok, so the largest bull with the brown body but black face is Redford, he was the first one we got. He is a Jersey breed. The large brown and white bull is Rocky, he is a Guernsey bull. The other one with a black face but his body is more grey, is Cruise, he is also a Jersey. The light brown one is Rainman, he is also a Jersey bull. The black one in Junio, so called because he came to the farm in June, which in Spanish is Junio. He also is a Jersey bull.

If you look in their mouth Q, you will see they have no top teeth. When they were babies and I was trying to get them to drink milk from the bucket and not the bottle, I used to put milk on my fingers and guide them to the bucket, sometimes they would suck my fingers and put their tongue over their bottom teeth so they would not hurt my fingers. Even just before I left they would suck my fingers as a sign of affection. They also liked a good scratch under their chin, particularly Redford.

Keep up the good work Quinn, I love reading about your adventures.
